Five Ways to Make Your Makeup Last All Day
By: Laurie Berry
We’ve all been there: 3 or 4 o’clock rolls around, you happen to look in the mirror at work and have that moment where you think “Omg, have I looked like this ALL day?” Your eye shadow is creased and smeared on your lid, your foundation looks like half of it ran down your face while the other half is still intact, and your eyeliner (that you ever so precisely applied at 7am this morning) looks nonexistent! Well, here are some tricks to have that makeup last ALL day without having that moment with yourself in the mirror:
FACE PRIMER- Priming your face before you apply your make up is a sure way to have it last throughout the day! It is ultra-smooth and fills in any cracks or creases, leaving your skin with a silky slate to apply your foundation. If you have super oily skin (like me!) you can get primer that is oil free and can minimize your pores if you happen to have large ones (again… like me!) I use VS PRO Oil Free Primer with SPF 15:
LID PRIMER- Priming your lids makes a HUGE difference when applying eye shadow. It gives the shadow something to adhere to while enhancing the color. Lid primer helps control the oil on your lids to prevent your shadow from creasing and looking runny. I use Urban Decay Eyelid Primer Potion:
LIP EXFOLIATER- When you exfoliate your lips, you are getting rid of dead skin cells and creating a smoother surface to apply your favorite lipstick. Nothing is worse than when you put your lipstick on and it looks clumpy around the spots where your lips are dry! I recommend exfoliating once a week with Bubble Gum Sugar Scrub – it’s usually super yummy and good for your lips- so why not right?!
FINISHING POWDER- After you apply your makeup, it’s always best to apply a light layer of finishing powder or matte powder. This gives you a nice airbrushed look, minimizes your pores, erases imperfections and helps set your make up so it’s long lasting throughout the day. I use Prep & Prime Transparent Finishing Powder:
BLOTTING PAPERS- These will be your new best friend. When you start to look a little shiny throughout the day and feel like your makeup might seem a little dewy (but not dewy in a good way) then whip out these babies and watch them go to work! They are super thin, ultra absorbent sheets that you blot your face with to absorb any excess oil. They don’t mess up your make up whatsoever and leave your skin looking perfect and airbrushed. I use Sephora Collection Blotting Papers:
