You guys… I have someone very special to introduce you to: Catie Thomson, the Flower City Fashionista Intern! We are so excited to welcome Catie to the Flower City Fashionista team! If you attended Bloggers Closet Yard Sale on Saturday, you already got a chance to meet her. It was only her first week with us, but she jumped right in. Not only did she assist with set up and break down of the event, but she single-handedly directed traffic and manned the raffle table, selling tickets like a boss! I’m already wondering how I got on without her. She’ll be with us throughout the summer, assisting with all areas of Flower City Fashionista business from event planning, personal shopping, and styling, to market research, community outreach and social media. I know you are going to love her just as much as I do!
Well, without further ado, I’d like you to meet Catie:
Hello, everyone! I’m Catie the Flower City Fashionista Intern. I’m so excited to be featured on the blog and to share a little bit about myself and my journey in fashion so far.
As a 20 year old fashion student, fashion is not only an obsession, but an aspiration of mine. Whether it be putting together outfits, reading magazines, scanning fashion blogs, or pinning lust-worthy clothing to my Pinterest boards, fashion is a part of my everyday life.
As cliche as it sounds, fashion really has been a life-long interest for me. Even as a little girl I had strong opinions of what I would and would not wear. A true girly-girl from the start, I refused to wear anything besides dresses and skirts up until the age of seven, when my mom finally succeeded in dressing me in pants.
My love for fashion was cemented when I began watching TLC’s What Not To Wear as a tween. Originally it was the comedic hosts of the show, Stacy London and Clinton Kelly, and their sassy, snarky comments to the poorly dressed contestants of the show that attracted me to the program. However, the show also showed me the power fashion has to transform self-confidence, allowing for someone to express their individuality and style to the world around them. Upon this discovery I was hooked and knew I wanted to pursue a career in this field.
My story has continued at Marist College, a liberal arts college in Poughkeepsie, New York, where I am pursuing a degree in Fashion Merchandising. After completing three years, I’ve learned all sorts of things about the history of fashion, different textiles, the design process, retailing strategies, and how to incorporate sustainability into fashion. Highlights of my college experience to date have included spending a semester abroad in London interning with a luxury bridal design company and attending my idol Betsey Johnson’s fashion show in New York City during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
This summer my journey will continue where it all began, in my hometown of Rochester, where I’ll be interning with Jenny, the Flower City Fashionista herself. Rochester’s growing fashion community continues to amaze me with its amazing network of shops, designers, style bloggers, and events. I am thrilled to be spending this summer learning from Jenny and continuing to explore all the amazing fashion Rochester has to offer.
I’ll be popping in again in July and August to share some style tips, fashion finds, and local happenings – so stay tuned.
xoxo
Catie
