On Monday, I shared about the first few days of our California trip in San Francisco. We had such a great time! There is something about traveling that seems to encourage me to step outside of my comfort zone when it comes to fashion. Maybe it’s easier to take risks when you are fairly certain you will not bump into anyone you know. Maybe it’s the novelty of being in a new place and dressing like a new version of you. Who knows. All I know is I wore a mini skirt (and a TIGHT one) for the first time ever. Oh. Baby.
I’ve never even worn a pencil skirt, let alone a mini skirt, due to extreme self-consciousness of my saddle bag region. Yes, I have saddle bags. Yes, I am fairly certain that they are much more egregious in my head than in real life and I may or may not have a mild case of body dysmorphic disorder, however they are there and typically look amplified in any sort of form-fitting skirt. Thankfully, in my interim as a stylist, I have learned a lot about how to dress my body. Since I’ve gotten good at working with proportions, I knew that when I found this killer black and white striped mini at Kmart on sale under $7 that I could pair it with a flowy top that hits at the hip to disguise the infamous saddle bag region (a great pair of Spanx doesn’t hurt either…).
For something I wouldn’t have even tried on a year ago, I think this skirt is going to get plenty of wear. It’s all about proportions – and here, it came together for a sexy, fun, and vibrant look perfect for a night out in the city by the bay.
Friday, I’m sharing our trip down the Pacific Coast Highway – don’t miss it!
