As the last few days of August approach, I’m beginning to feel the crispness in the air that can only mean one thing: Fall is about to begin. Although I do love summer, I am counting down the days until I am able to indulge myself with Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes and scarf down apple cider donuts. Fall is my favorite season, and not just for the food as the prior sentence may have lead you to believe. Fall fashion is all about keeping comfortable and layering with sweaters, scarves, and boots. Fall fashion has always seemed effortlessly cozy-chic to me, and for that reason is my favorite season of dressing. As I prepare to head back to school, I thought I’d share some fall trends I’ve been watching.
Over the past few weeks every store I’ve entered has had fun, quirky, prints practically every which way. From cute animals to mod graphics, witty phrases, and geometric patterns, there seems to be prints out there for everyone’s tastes. Lucky for me my personal favorite, fox-prints, have been very popular lately. The red fox being my college’s mascot gives me plenty of incentive to stock up on this trend this fall.
I know what you’re thinking. Queue Meryl Streep’s voice from The Devil Wear’s Prada: “knits for fall groundbreaking.” Knits for fall are not a new trend by any means, but knits were interpreted in new ways for this fall across the runways. With long knit dresses, ribbed knits, and chunky knits taking center stage, there are sure to be plenty of new variations on the ultimate fall staple. Personally I believe one can never have too many cozy knits.
The Fall 2014 runway collections proved that pastels are not just for springtime anymore. I’m really excited about this trend because it will breathe some fresh life into fall clothes that can sometimes fall in the same neutral, bland color palette. I’m definitely planning on incorporating some pops of mint green and pale pink into my outfits this season.
Yes, I already have a pair of ankle booties from last year, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make room in my closet for another. Ankle booties are very versatile as they can be worn with jeans as well as skirts and dresses. A must to keep feet warm, comfortable, and cute, ankle booties are another of my fall essentials.
